PEERPLUS

PeerPlus is a forty-hour Oregon Health Authority (OHA) approved training for Peer Support Specialists that is specifically tailored to fit the needs of youth and young adult peer support providers. This training provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to peer work and includes a variety of support methods that center on the lived experiences of the peer. Those who complete this training are able to register with the state of Oregon as certified Peer Support Specialists (PSS).

Training topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Youth engagement

  • Trauma-informed care

  • Confidentiality

  • Mandatory reporting

  • Suicide and crisis response

  • Domestic violence

  • Sexual assault

  • History of the peer movement

  • Development of the peer profession

  • Youth developmental assets

  • Ethics and boundaries

This training is instructor-led and utilizes a PowerPoint presentation, videos, facilitator storytelling, group discussions, and role-playing activities. PeerPlus emphasizes the value of the trainee experience and encourages participants to share their stories and ideas throughout the training.

Since the pandemic, Youth Era has made the choice to offer the PeerPlus training in an online format. The training is for 7 days, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. All training dates exclude Saturday & Sunday. To meet the OHA time requirements there will be homework assignments. *scheduling subject to change

YSS Recertification Assessment
